Hello Everyone!

My first week here in Moshi, Tanzania, is almost over; I can't believe it! The last few days have been amazing. I have been working in St. Joseph's Health Center where I have been helping the nurses examine infants in the maternal clinic and giving medicine to the babies as well. We do rounds with the nurses every morning, changing bed sheets and speaking to the patients.

My Kiswahili is progressing slowly (polepole). Tomorrow we are going on a safari to the Ngorongoro crater and Lake Manyara for two nights and next week I will be going with one of the doctors to Rombo for two nights. I will be able to work in the labor and delivery unit in a hospital there which I am really looking forward to. (They allow us to give injections and do pretty much anything that a wazungoo daktari "white doctor" would do.)

Everything about this place and its people is amazing. I have made so many friends amongst the locals already. Anyway, I am almost finished with my 30 minute time block at the internet cafe so I have to get going and catch a dala dala back to the village. I will email you all sometime next week. Until then Qwaheri (goodbye)!

Emily
