Community STEM Education
Girlstart Community STEM Programming Series provides workshops, science nights, science fairs, and quarterly Community Science Extravaganzas for girls and their families that introduce robotics, mechanical engineering, webpage design, biology, medicine, forensic science, chemistry, and more. We also have a traveling StarLab program- only one of two portable planetariums in the region. Our Science Extravaganzas reach a wide audience; during the 2009-10 academic year, our public programs reached 1,333 children and parents. These large-scale events are free and open to the public.
Community Science Extravaganzas
Girlstart’s free Science Extravaganza programs reach hundreds of girls and families in diverse neighborhoods throughout Central Texas. Each Extravaganza offers 10-12 booths with dynamic, hands-on science and engineering activities that are fun and accessible to children of all ages.
Community STEM Outreach
Girlstart conducts extensive outreach activities designed to introduce informal STEM topics and learning to our community. These activities include providing assistance to schools with their science and/or math nights and offering STEM activities and Girlstart information at community booths and events.
Girlstart uses StarLab - one of only two portable planetariums in Central Texas – to introduce students to astronomy at their own schools and local community centers. For more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
