Straw Boats

The weather is heating up here in Austin, and we’re excited to get outside and play with water. This experiment allows us to do just that as we work as engineers to design a boat using just a few materials. Our challenge is to see just how many pennies our boat can support. Try this one outside on a sunny day!

Investigating Center of Gravity

The center of gravity of an object is the point at which weight is evenly dispersed and all sides are in balance. Using this simple trick, you can locate the center of gravity of any long object. Try changing the weight of opposite sides of the object and see if your fingers still reach its center of gravity!
