Net Safety
Girlstart girls always practice
safe
surfing on the Internet. Safe surfing means that Girlstart girls -
never give personal information (your real name, your age, your
address,
or your phone number) to anyone they "meet" on the web.
-
always immediately tell an adult (their parents, a teacher, a
mentor) if
someone on the Internet asks them for any of the information
above.
- always tell an adult if anything they see or hear
on
the Internet makes them feel uncomfortable or scared.
-
never
download anything from the net without first checking with an adult
(their parents, a teacher, a mentor) to make sure that the file
contains
no "viruses" (bugs that can mess up your computer.)
-
never
arrange to meet in person someone they met on the Internet.
-
always practice good netiquette. They never flame (send unfriendly
email
messages) other people on the net. They never use inappropriate
language.
- learn more about computers and technology,
visit
website for girls, learn more about the Internet, and learn more
about
hi-tech career opportunities for girls.
