"Wax On, Wax Off"

You may be too young to know this familiar line from one of my favorite childhood movies - The Karate Kid, but it describes my life to a "T" right now! I am constantly putting wax on my braces, so they don't snag my cheeks and give me mouth sores! (that sounds like a really bad disease, but with brace faces, it is unpreventable!)

The orthodontist gave me some packets of clear wax when I first got my braces, but I had no idea what it was for. After a few days, the inside of my mouth felt raw like I had tons of mouth ulcers and I couldn't talk very well because it hurt. I called up Brandy, my faithful dental assistant friend, and she said, "Use the wax girl!"

After I talked to her, I put wax on EVERY single bracket, and it looked like I had a bunch of goo stuck to my teeth. But I didn't care, because it made my mouth feel SO much better! No more sores, so now I am addicted to wax!

I have to remember to take it off before I eat, or I might swallow it. Brandy said it isn't toxic, but I am sure it isn't healthy! I feel like I spend most of my time putting wax on and taking off then putting it back on my teeth. It does take a lot of time, but it is worth the chore.

I didn't know that wax was so amazing. When I talk to Previous Brace Faces (PBF), they all tell me that it saved their mouths! Who knew?!

I am trying to talk my best friend into letting me share her story with you about wearing headgear to school. My teeth are not that crooked, but I know some of you have to wear that annoying contortive device. So keep your fingers crossed that I can convince Angelina* to share her story with you. She is the wonder woman of braces! My personal hero!!

Talk to you soon!

Julie
