Brace Face Diary

Well, I am finally getting used to having braces. There have been tons of adjustments though! Eating is a lot more difficult then it used to be! Everything I eat seems to get stuck in them. Last week, I went to the Cheesecake Factory with my sister and the food was awesome! After dinner, I tried to discreetly pick some food out of my braces, but I got a lot of weird looks from people. I finally excused myself and went to the bathroom to clean my teeth with some privacy!

It seems like I brush my teeth 5 or 6 times a day! It certainly makes eating snacks between meals less appealing! I keep telling myself it will be worth it!

This week I am on vacation and I went to the Texas State Fair with some friends. We had a great time, but the food is really geared toward the braceless! The only thing they had to eat for lunch was grilled corn on the cob or corndogs. Since I wanted to spare the whole fair from the terror of watching me eat corn on the cob, I went with the corndog. I think I was the only one tearing pieces of the corndog off with my fingers, so I wouldn't have to bite down into it. Trust me, I would love to bite into one, but my teeth are still a little sore and I am still having a little trouble biting.

The one snack I could have plenty of at the fair was cotton candy! YUM!! (even though the orthodontist told me not to eat too much sugar, I figured I deserved some treat I could eat!) I ate too much and got a little sick to my stomach! Let's just say that I don't want pure sugar for a really long time!

I did win a cool prize at the fair because of my braces! We went by a booth that said "We Can Guess Your Age Within 2 Years or You Win", so I gave it a shot. I smiled really big, making sure he saw my braces (I was hoping they would make me look a lot younger!). The guy wrote down a number and then asked me how old I was. I told him "28" and then he showed me his number. He wrote "21" and I got to pick out a prize. I was really happy to look 7 years younger!

I am a little nervous about next week- I get my braces tightened for the first time! I will write all about it!

Julie
