A Hard Food Party!
Dear Bracefaces,
This holiday season brings lots of challenges for brace faces- sticky candy we can't eat, family photos with big braceface smiles, and of course the cold weather (there is nothing worse than having ice cold metal in your mouth and trying to stay warm)! To cheer you up, the ghost of the Christmas future is here to tell us what it will be like to finally get our braces off. Actually, Rebecca isn't a ghost, she is a real life braceface that just got her braces off. Our very own founder and executive director, Rachel, interviewed her at her "Hard Food" party she had to celebrate this big event!
-----------------------
My friend Rebecca got braces when she was a teenager. But would you believe she had to get them again as an adult? It's true! Rebecca's teeth had shifted so much that she needed braces and even some dental surgery.
Rebecca got her braces put back on when she was 24. She wasn't too happy about it, but she did it because she knew how important healthy teeth are. Fast forward two and a half years...Rebecca just got her braces off! She was so excited she invited all her friends over for a hard food party to celebrate. Have you been dreaming about what kind of a great party you'll throw when you get your braces off? So had she! After not being able to eat tortilla chips at Mexican restaurants because they got so stuck in her braces, she was ready to dive in to some forbidden foods! Her party menu list included crunchy celery stalks, crispy carrots, plenty of tortilla chips and dip, barbeque, gooey gummy bears, and the most forbidden of all: caramel apples! I caught up with her at her party and got a Brace Face Diary exclusive:
Rachel: What was your very first reaction when you got your braces off?
Rebecca: I thought, "My teeth look SO BIG!"
Rachel: Well, they look great! Of course everyone wants to know...how is the kissing?
Rebecca: Kissing is better!
Rachel: What was the very first thing you did after you got them off?
Rebecca: I ate a piece of my favorite candy, watermelon Jolly Rancher. It was great!
Rachel: What advice do you have for everyone out there still struggling with their braces?
Rebecca: It is worth it all when you get them off! If I can do it at age 27, you can do it!!!"
