Amanda JacksonFounder and President Town Lake Press LLC Amanda started her own company when she was 19-years-old and a freshman in college. Discover how Amanda created a business around University of Texas football calendars and gives back to her community! What are some of your job responsibilities? I create/design the calendars, choose photographs to be included, research printing companies, create advertisements for my calendar that are used in several publications, write press releases and distribute them to media outlets, calculate and file sales taxes, give sales presentations to potential retailers and customers, create and maintain my e-commerce website, ship calendars to online customers and retailers, give interviews to media personnel, calculate and pay royalties from sales to The University. How did you find your current job? I created the job! I saw something that was missing in the marketplace, and I took the steps to create the product and fill the void. Did you learn any of your skills from school? YES! Writing skills (for press releases and website material), math skills (for sales tax and royalty calculations), computer skills (for my website), people/communication skills (for interviews and presentations), marketing techniques, and budgeting/accounting skills. What would you tell a girl that was interested in doing what you do? Believe in yourself! No matter how young you are, if you have the will and determination, you can achieve anything! What are some of your hobbies? I love sports, cheering for the Longhorns (Hook 'Em!), being outside, running on Town Lake, photography, reading, going to concerts, and hanging out with family and friends. What is your favorite website? TexasSports.com! I also work in the Media Relations Department at UT Athletics, and our department maintains all the information on this website. I write many of the feature and game stories that are seen on this website. If you could talk to you when you were 12 years old, what advice would you give yourself?
